Who we are
Outdoor Emergency Rescue Training International is the result of three decades of hands-on experience in the outdoor emergency rescue field. Lead instructor Tren Long grew up in a family that ran a rafting company on Idaho’s Payette River, gaining invaluable expertise in swiftwater rescue, wilderness medicine, and river safety. With extensive experience teaching fire departments, search and rescue teams, special forces, commercial outfitters, and whitewater enthusiasts, Tren is a certified Instructor Trainer for Rescue 3 International, IRTA, and Sierra Rescue. A recipient of the Higgins and Langley award for outstanding achievement, Tren's passion for rescue instruction and dedication to student success are evident in every class..
Joining our team of skilled instructors is Merle Long, who began his journey in wilderness medicine at just 16, volunteering on a rural ambulance service. His early start provided invaluable experience in the unique challenges of emergency medicine in remote environments. With a deep understanding of rural emergency care, Merle brings expertise and passion to every course, helping students prepare for real-world medical emergencies in the wilderness.
